Golden Milk is such a hot topic these days because it is one of the best anti-inflammatory drinks that you can make! Inflammation is a big deal because chronic, low-level inflammation has been linked to the pathogenesis of at least 7 of the 10 leading causes of mortality in the United States. We are talking heart disease, cancer, Alzheimer’s disease, diabetes, kidney disease, stroke, chronic low-respiratory disease, and more. Golden Milk is powerful at reducing inflammation because it is loaded with such powerful spices, most notably, turmeric.

Turmeric contains bioactive compounds with powerful medicinal properties, especially from curcumin. This is the main active ingredient found in turmeric that is responsible for its powerful anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects. By the way, a substance in black pepper helps the curcumin absorb into your blood stream!

Ginger, cardamom, nutmeg, and cinnamon are also powerful spices that are not only grounding and warming, but also contain antioxidants, anti-inflammatory compounds, and are beneficial at balancing the blood sugar. Combine these with the ever so popular turmeric and healthy fats from the coconut milk and you have a drink that will boost your immune system, curb cravings, and keep your beautiful body feeling amazing!

This Paleo-friendly recipe for the anti-inflammatory beverage, Golden Milk is delicious, warming, and a breeze to whip up.

Ingredients  

  • 1 cup hot water or almond milk/ more coconut milk
  • 1/2 cup full fat canned coconut milk
  • 1 teaspoon turmeric
  • 2-3 dashes ginger or ground fresh ginger
  • dash of black pepper
  • dash of cardamom
  • dash of nutmeg
  • dash of cinnamon
  • Pinch of pink himalayan salt
  • 1 tablespoon raw local or manuka honey (option to sub pure liquid stevia for a low glycemic option)

Instructions 

  • Place all ingredients into a blender and blend until frothy. I recommend drinking it hot, so simply heat the coconut milk and water on the stove prior to placing it into the blender with remaining ingredients.

  1. If you cook a lot you probably already have all of these ingredients handy. I made this last night and it was perfect. I used unsweetened vanilla almond milk + coconut milk. Will definitely make it again very soon!
