Welcome to our โGet to Knowโ series! Each Tuesday (for the next year), weโre going to introduce you to a creator in the wellness space that we think you NEED to know. The creators we feature are of various backgrounds. Whether theyโre an online content creator, coach, or owner of a product-based brand, they each have their own niche in the wellness world and contribute to the space, as a whole, in an incredibly meaningful way. Weโre setting this up Q&A-style so that you can learn more about each creatorโs why, the content that theyโre most proud of, and exactly how you can be a part of and contribute to their journey. We hope you enjoy our conversations with these wonderful people and brands. We know theyโre going to enrich your lives!
This week, weโre interviewing Suzy of The Mediterranean Dish. Suzy has three guiding Mediterranean principles: โeat with the seasons; use whole foods (as much as possible); and, above all, share.โ Follow along as we learn more about Suzy:
Why did you start your business?
Suzy: My family was in transition and we had just relocated to a new city for my husband’s work. With that, I quit an 11-year career in fundraising and PR to focus on the transition and my girls. I had a very difficult time with being home after having such a busy career though. It was my husband’s idea to start The Mediterranean Dish as a creative outlet while I figured out my next steps. I grew up by the shores of the Mediterranean in Egypt, so I loved the idea of documenting Mediterranean recipes I grew up with for my Michigan-born daughters. And so The Mediterranean Dish started as a hobby and a love letter to my girls.
By the fall of 2016, I was starting to hear from people who are using my site as a resource to follow the Mediterranean diet and our way of eating. When I realized my site was helping others lead healthier, delicious lives, it became my full time job…or my mission, actually.
Today, The Mediterranean Dish is the leading online resource for modern Mediterranean recipes & the Mediterranean lifestyle.
Whatโs your mission/purpose statement?
Suzy: My personal mission is born out of three simple Mediterranean principles: eat with the seasons; use whole foods (as much as possible); and above all; share. It’s my joy to use my voice as “the Mediterranean girl next door” to share resources and easy, no-fuss recipes to help busy cooks lead healthy, delicious lives.
What 2 (or 3!) pieces of content are you the proudest of?
Suzy:
Where are you going next? Whatโs your goal for the next year?
Suzy: TMD’s mission is to continue to be the #1 resource for modern Mediterranean cooking & the Mediterranean lifestyle. We launched our shop to provide quality products for Mediterranean cooking like extra virgin olive oils, spices, couscous, legumes…and this year, we are expanding our product offerings with more wholesome and delicious ingredients. We are working on growing our YouTube channel by sharing more Mediterranean cooking tutorials. There is one more big project in the making, but I’ll have to tell you about it later.
