As if we needed another reason to love our air fryer, turns out, it makes THE BEST cookies, too. Gooey on the inside, crisp on the outside, just a couple minutes to prep, and you don’t have to turn on your oven.

Air Fryer Chocolate Chip Cookies

The air fryer is a magical device and I have to be honest, I totally resisted it for a long, long time. Another kitchen gadget??? I am very resistant to new kitchen gadgets. I’m a minimalist in the kitchen and prefer to stay away from (what I perceive as) trendy items. That said, the air fryer bug finally bit me, and I don’t think I’ll ever be the same.

To get a FULL picture of what’s really possible in an air fryer, I highly recommend you check out this article that shows 3 complete dinners made in one (a chicken dinner, a steak dinner, and a fish dinner). My sister, Kimberly Dunn, and I even filmed a video to show you how it works! Check out our air fryer video here.

These chocolate chip cookies were absolutely mind-blowing to me. I couldn’t believe how quickly the air fryer pre-heated (minutes) and how crispy, BUT ALSO gooey, the cookies were. I fully plan on using this method to make single serving cookies for when the whim strikes.

If the amount of time that it takes to bake your cookies in the air fryer isn’t significantly different than the amount of time it takes to bake them in the oven (and in this case, it isn’t), then why do it?! I’m here to tell you! The biggest pro to choosing the air fryer over the oven is the incredibly delicious (read: perfect) texture that the air fryer method gives the cookies – they’re ooey-gooey soft on the inside with a nice crisp texture on the outside. It’s also a major plus to not have to turn on the oven (and heat up the entire kitchen), especially in warmer weather months!

If you’re sold on the idea of air fryer cookies, but you’d rather make your cookies from scratch, we’ve got you! If you plan on going this route, though, we’d recommend letting your cookie dough sit in the refrigerator for at least an hour (or overnight, if you’ve got time) before air frying.

Supplies Needed for Air Fryer Cookies

Wondering what supplies you need for air fryer cookies? The list is short, and because you landed on this article, there’s a good chance that you’ve already got exactly what you need. To start, you’ll need an air fryer – this Cosori air fryer is the one that we use and love. To keep the cookies from sticking, you’ll also need parchment paper. An air fryer and parchment paper – that’s it!

How long does it take to cook cookies in an air fryer?

Baking your cookies in the air fryer is pretty quick – 12 minutes, to be exact!

Storing and Freezing Instructions

Store your leftover cookies in an airtight container or bag on the counter for up to a week, in the fridge for 2 weeks, or in the freezer (YEP, you read that right!) for up to 3 months. Baking and freezing cookies is actually one of our very favorite make-ahead hacks and comes in clutch during busy holiday seasons!

Q Can you put parchment paper in air fryer?
A

You CAN put parchment paper in the air fryer! It’s totally safe and truly no different than putting parchment paper in the oven.

Q Can you use aluminum foil in the air fryer?
A

Yes, you can use aluminum foil in the air fryer! You’ll want to just lay the aluminum foil in the bottom of the air fryer basket (vs. up onto the sides of the basket) so that the air flow is not impacted at all.

Q Can you cook frozen cookies in the air fryer?
A

You can absolutely cook frozen cookie dough in the air fryer! I’d start with 12 minutes at 330°F and if they still need more time, continue in two minute increments until fully cooked.

Q Do you have to use parchment paper?
A

You don’t have to line your air fryer basket with parchment paper before placing your cookies in, but it definitely makes clean up a lot easier!
