The time has finally come. Iโ€™ve been subtly teasing you for months โ€“ saying that Iโ€™ve been working on some big projects that I canโ€™t wait to tell you about. While I still have a few surprises up my sleeve for later this year, I can finally let you in on my most important, most consuming, and most exciting endeavor of the year.

I am the Chair of the committee behind the 1st Annual National Gluten-Free Day.

Say what??

Thatโ€™s right! National Gluten-Free Day is going to happen and itโ€™s going to be HUGE.

HUGE, I say!

Letโ€™s talk about it.

NGF-Day

Monday, January 13th is National Gluten-Free Day {NGFD}.

The event will reoccur the 2nd Monday of each New Year.

NGFD was founded with the goal of creating a fun and exciting awareness campaign for one dedicated day of gluten-free living.

Follow along during the next few weeks while we answer the following questions:

  1. What is gluten?
  2. Why is everyone talking about it?
  3. If I don’t have an autoimmune disease, allergy, or known sensitivity, why should I go gluten-free?
  4. What’s left to eat?
DAY 1 Reason

Hereโ€™s how you can participate:

  1. Go gluten-free for a day! You can do it! If youโ€™ve been curious about the grain-free lifestyle, are looking to make a healthy change in 2014, or just want to see what a day away from wheat gluten can look like โ€“ this is for you!
  2. SPREAD THE WORD. Share it! Like it! Write about it! Comment on it!
  3. Are you in San Antonio or the surrounding area? Then turn on your TV! My first appearance is scheduled for NBC San Antonio Living tomorrow morning at 10:00 a.m. โ€“ Iโ€™ll be conducting a gluten-free cooking demo {of a few recipes you will probably recognize} and talking about NGFD.
  4. Even if youโ€™re not one of my San Antonio homies, keep your TVโ€™s on! Weโ€™ve got some big national appearances scheduled and Iโ€™ll keep you posted as those solidify.

So that youโ€™re REALLY in the know, I have to tell you about the launch party for NGFD! Weโ€™re hosing a Gluten-Free Gala on January 10th in San Antonio, TX to kickoff this tremendous event.

Whole Foods is teaming with one of our local healthy chef stars, Zach Lutton of Zedricโ€™s, to provide a gourmet seated dinner to 200+ of the movers and shakers in our community. Weโ€™re going to have cocktails, a silent auction, speakers, and a private concert by the ridiculously entertaining Spazmatics. I wish I could take each of you as my personal guest.

Weโ€™re contributing all net proceeds to our friends at the Farm to Consumer Legal Defense Fund. Look them up! Itโ€™s an incredible organization.

  1. I am interested in your area of expertise reference gluten-free foods etc. I refused excepting that I have Celiac & fought it for 10 years right down to 98 lbs & , near kidney failure last year. I get all my info from reading only. Please respond if your still associated, I’m not having much luck finding people in San antonio, tx.

    1. Hi there! Yes, gluten-free foods is still one of my passions as it fits within the Paleo/Real Food parameters. First off, I do recommend you consult a physician – especially with your weight loss and near kidney failure. Other than that, some quality reads regarding the dangers of gluten include Grain Brain by David Perlmutter and Wheat Belly by William Davis. All recipes labeled “Paleo,” “gluten-free,” and/or “grain-free” will be conducive to your gluten-free lifestyle.
