Peppermint Mocha Recipe Ingredients
Only 6 ingredients stand between you and the most delightful coffee creamer! Find ingredient notes (including substitutions and swaps) below.
- Heavy whipping cream – heavy cream makes this recipe super creamy and delicious.
- Whole milk – feel free to use any milk here (whole milk, 2%, or skim). Whole milk makes the recipe extra luscious, but whatever you have on hand works great.
- Cocoa powder – make sure to grab pure cocoa powder here, not hot chocolate mix. You should be able to find cocoa powder on the baking aisle of your grocery store.
- Maple syrup – pure maple syrup adds the perfect amount of sweetness to this creamer.
- Peppermint extract – again, this should be on the baking aisle of your local grocery store.
A full ingredient list with exact amounts can be found in the recipe card below.
Recipe Variations and Modifications
- Swap the milks – we chose whole milk for this recipe, but you can truly use whatever you have on hand. Half and half, 2%, oat milk, and almond milk will all work.
- Make it dairy-free – to make this creamer dairy-free, use dairy-free heavy cream (Silk and Califia Farms both make one) or canned coconut milk in place of the heavy whipping cream and oat milk or almond milk in place of the whole milk.
How to Make a Peppermint Mocha Latte
This recipe is incredibly easy to make – all you need is a mason jar! Follow along below for the full how-to.
Step 1: Add the heavy cream, whole milk, maple syrup, cocoa powder, peppermint extract, and salt to a mason jar (or other lidded jar), add the lid, and shake vigorously to combine.
Step 2: Pour your coffee into a mug, about half of the way full.
Step 3: Fill the mug the rest of the way up with the peppermint mocha creamer.
Step 4: Add homemade whipped cream and crumbled peppermint candies, if you desire. Enjoy!
Recipe Tip
You can absolutely store your peppermint mocha creamer in the fridge, but because it’s homemade and does not contain any stabilizers, give it a good shake before pouring it into your coffee to combine any separation.
How to Serve
Serve your creamer with hot or iced coffee, and for the most coffee shop-like experience, be sure to dollop whipped cream (regular homemade whipped cream or dairy-free whipped cream) on top, followed by a dusting of crushed peppermint candy!
How to Store
Store the creamer in an airtight jar in the fridge. Be sure to check the expiration date on your milk and heavy cream – you’ll want to use your creamer by that date!
Frequently Asked Questions
Both ready-made brands of peppermint mocha coffee creamer and peppermint mocha coffee shop lattes are seasonal. Another reason to ditch them and make your own – you can enjoy the festive flavor year round!
Espresso, drip coffee, or cold brew will all work. Use whichever is your favorite!
Cold brew and iced coffee are not the same! Cold brew is brewed in cold water for 12ish hours, making it higher in caffeine than regular brewed coffee. Iced coffee is brewed hot (think: regular brewed coffee in a coffee pot) and then poured over ice.
