- Flour – we used a gluten-free flour blend for this recipe, but you can use any all-purpose flour that you have on hand.

- Make it grain-free – use a grain-free flour blend here to make this recipe grain-free.
- Make it gluten-free – use a gluten-free flour for this recipe like we did (King Arthur Gluten Free Measure for Measure is our preference, always and forever!) to make this recipe totally gluten-free.
How to Make Creamy Garlic Chicken
This recipe is incredibly easy to make! Follow along below for the full how-to.
Step 1: Dust the chicken breasts with the ½ teaspoon of salt and ¼ teaspoon of pepper. Mix half of a cup of flour and half of a cup of parmesan together in a shallow bowl and then press the chicken into it on all sides until completely coated.
Step 2: Melt the butter into a large skillet over medium/high heat with the cloves of garlic, sear the chicken for 5-6 minutes per side, or until each side develops a golden brown crust and the chicken reaches an internal temperature of 165°F.
Step 3: Remove the chicken from the skillet, add the rest of the flour, broth, cream, and Dijon mustard. Whisk to combine until it’s smooth. Add the rest of the parmesan and additional ½ teaspoon of salt and ¼ teaspoon of pepper, if needed.
Step 4: Nestle the chicken back into the sauce, and simmer for 10 minutes. Garnish with fresh parmesan and fresh chopped parsley, and serve with mashed potatoes and green beans, if desired.
Recipe Tips
- Make sure the pan is heated all the way – before you sear the chicken, make sure the pan is heated all the way. This will allow the chicken to get a nice sear on it!
- Use a meat thermometer – to ensure perfectly cooked chicken (or any protein) every single time, we recommend using a meat thermometer vs. relying on a specific amount of time.
How to Serve
Serve your creamy, decadent garlic chicken alongside mashed potatoes and roasted green beans, like we did, or any other sides you love.
How to Store and Reheat
Store leftover creamy garlic chicken in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 4 days.
Reheat your chicken in the microwave for 1-2 minutes or in a skillet over medium heat for 8-10 minutes, until warmed through.
Frequently Asked Questions
We’ve said it before and we’ll say it again, the secret to moist chicken (or any moist protein, really) is a meat thermometer! A meat thermometer allows you to pull the chicken off the heat as soon as it’s cooked, so that it’s juicy and delicious and not dry in the slightest!
You’ll want to enjoy any leftover creamy garlic chicken within 4 days of storing it.

Does the garlic get removed with the chicken?
Made this tonight for dinner (doubled the sauce, tripled the chicken). ALL 7 of us liked it. Both teens and the 7 yo asked for seconds!
So I of course shared the recipe with all my sisters/sisters-in-law!
AMAZING! What a win! We are so so excited that y’all loved it!
How much of the flour and Parmesan are supposed to be used for each part? I mixed it all together to coat the chicken and that was obviously too much and now I see some of it was supposed to be reserved for later in the recipe.
I’m so glad you asked, Stefanie! I fixed it in the copy and the recipe card. I’m so sorry that wasn’t there for you when you cooked the meal.
