Swapping Grand Marnier for the traditional triple sec, this margarita puts a spicier spin on the classic margarita with a more complex depth of flavor.

Two cocktail glasses with Grand Marnier margaritas on the rocks with salt on a gold and white circle plate with a bottle of Grand Marnier behind them surrounded by lime wedges and ice cubes on a rose pink surface.

Y’all. This margarita is special. We’ve taken out the more traditional triple sec and replaced it with Grand Marnier which adds a deep complexity of flavor to the margarita. The spices from the brandy warm your taste buds and the vanilla notes really work in true harmony with the tang of the lime juice. It’s a must-try!

If you aren’t familiar with Grand Marnier, it is a French liqueur that is made from Cognac brandy and distilled essence of bitter orange. So, it is essentially triple sec blended with cognac, which results in a warm, spiced liqueur.

Recipe Ingredients

Grand Marnier margarita ingredients on a gray and white marble surface.

For two servings of this Grand Marnier margarita, you’ll need:

  • ½ cup of tequila
  • ⅓ cup of Grand Marnier
  • ¼ cup of lime juice
  • 1 tablespoon of agave

To scale up to make a pitcher (8 servings) of this Grand Marnier margarita, you’ll need:

  • 2 cups of tequila
  • 1⅓ cups of Grand Marnier
  • 1 cup of lime juice
  • 4 tablespoons of agave

While Grand Marnier is what really makes this Grand Marnier margarita, you can certainly substitute another liqueur. If you don’t have Grand Marnier on hand, you can substitute with ¼ cup of triple sec.

How to Serve

This margarita is delicious alongside classic chips, homemade guacamole, and Instant Pot barbacoa tacos. I know this sounds a little less obvious, but because of the rich spices and warm notes of flavor Grand Marnier brings to the mix, it is also super tasty with a slice of strawberry yogurt pie or chocolate strawberry truffles

To store your Grand Marnier margarita, pour it into a covered container and place it in the fridge for up to 5 days.

Grand Marnier margaritas will have the brightest flavor from the fresh lime juice the day they are prepared but are good for up to 5 days in the fridge.
